When Masonic Home came to CMG in 2017 with a magazine to redesign, we didn’t know much about freemasonry. And that didn’t matter. We did know how to design magazines, and it was a joy to revamp their long-standing publication.
We also emphasized photography, pulling from our bench of experts that we use for the magazine. Our writers and editors jumped in and soon we had a magazine that reflected Masonic Home’s true brand.
Next up was the annual report. Using the magazine as a basis for design, we expanded the color palette to include an emerald and eggplant. In the new report, photography plays a big role, there is a hierarchy to the information, and the graphs have been both simplified and varied.
With the print products overhauled, the website needed to reflect the new style. We used our new branding guidelines to modernize the site. We then upped the ante a bit and brought in a drone for some hero image video.
Once we redesigned the main website, it became clear that the museum would need its own website as well. One of the more interesting things about working with the Masonic Home has been learning about Missouri history through their thorough collection of Masonic records and artifacts.
Working holistically with a client enables us to develop close relationships to the brand and the people. Over the last few years, the women who run the Masonic Home have become good friends. We’re looking forward to helping them plan one of the biggest events in their industry next June in Kansas City.
